LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Every year, it's a somber tradition. A crowd gathers inside the Warren County Supreme Court chamber, to remember cases heard there - and, more importantly, those cases' victims. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Warren County District Attorney Jason Carusone led the county's annual Crime Victim Memorial Ceremony on Monday morning, highlighting some high-profile cases around Warren County from recent years. "You're called a victim for a reason, and some of the ways this is discussed now is in terms of 'survivors' rather than victims. I like that, but not everyone gets to be a survivor - because some victims lose their lives."The theme of this year's ceremony was "Elevate, Engage, and Effect Change." Victims l...

The former case manager whose allegations against a St. Louis transgender clinic spurred an inquiry by the attorney general says she stands behind her claims, despite an internal investigation by her former employer concluding they are unsubstantiated. Last week, Washington University released the findings of its investigation into allegations of misconduct made by Jamie Reed, who worked as a case manager for the Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital for four years. Among the claims made by Reed were that the center gave a majority of children cross-sex hormones and issued prescriptions prior to treating mental health. The university concluded Reed’s allegations did not hold up. In response, Reed released a pair of statements through her attorneys over the weekend raising doubts about the university’s conclusions and calling into question its standard of care. Reed says the numbers cited by the university don’t match what she has calculated in regard...

Opinion: Goodbye Tucker Carlson. I’ll miss the cartoons.

Tucker Carlson will no longer be on Fox News. The announcement Monday that Carlson and Fox had parted ways came after Fox had agreed to pay out a quarter of a billion dollars to Dominion in a defamation lawsuit that rested heavily on Carlson’s on-air reporting about election fraud coupled with his off-air text messages indicating he thought it all was a hoax.To mark this moment, I’ve pulled some of the best Tucker Carlson cartoons from over the years because sometimes a drawing is worth a thousand words. On Tucker Carlson (Dave Whamond, CagleCartoons.com)On Tucker Carlson (RJ Matson, CagleCartoons.com)On Tucker Carlson (Adam Zyglis, The Buffalo News)On Tucker Carlson (Dave Granlund, CagleCartoons.com)On Tucker Carlson (Bob Englehart, CagleCartoons.com)On Tucker Carlson (Dave Granlund, CagleCartoons.com)On Tucker Carlson (Christopher Weyant, The Boston Globe)On Tucker Carlson (RJ Matson, CQ Roll Call)On Tucker Carlson (Dave Whamond, CagleCartoons.com)On Tucker Carlson (Ed ...

California Republicans blast 'crazy' fixed-rate power bill proposal

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 05:05:39 GMT

California Republicans are asking state regulators to reject a proposal by California's three largest power companies to create a fixed rate for services based on household income."The ‘fixed-charge’ proposal is nothing but a shameful attempt to exploit and rip off residential customers,’” Senate Republicans said in a letter sent to California’s Public Utilities Commission last week. “Another name for this proposal could be the 'Hard Work Utility Tax,' as it is an unjust and regressive plan that fails to recognize the differences in energy usage among households and unfairly burdens lower-income families.”The passage of Assembly Bill 205 required utilities to simplify power bills while lower costs for lower-income residents. As a result, Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric submitted a joint proposal to the CPUC earlier this month to create a tiered fixed-rate system that would cover basic services and operating costs.Households wit...

Three months after the Lunar New Year shooting claimed 11 lives in Monterey Park, local and state officials on Monday announced new legislation that they hope will prevent similar shootings in the future. The first bill would remove all guns from the possession of someone convicted of a crime using a firearm. The second prevents law enforcement or other government agencies from reselling guns to the community."Let's make sure we destroy those guns, not resell them," said Cristine DeBerry, founder and executive director of the Prosecutors Alliance of California, which supports the bills."State and local government agencies should not be arms dealers," added Assemblymember Mike Fong (D-Alhambra), whose district includes Monterey Park.
