Angels’ Mike Moustakas praises, thanks Rockies day after trade

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 06:43:14 GMT

There were no “hallelujahs” or “thank heavens” from veteran Mike Moustakas on Sunday, a day after he was traded from the Rockies to the Angels. In fact, the 34-year-old Moustakas had nothing but praise for the Rockies, who signed him to a minor-league deal before spring training and helped resurrect his career.Never mind that the Angels blasted the Rockies, 25-1, Saturday night in the worst defeat in Rockies franchise history. Forget that Moustakas is moving to an Angels team that entered Sunday’s game with a 42-36 record and is competing for a playoff spot in the American League. And also forget that Colorado (30-49) is on pace for its first 100-loss season.“It’s a great group of guys over there, and (Colorado) gave me an opportunity to play major league baseball again, and I’m very thankful for that,” the corner infielder nicknamed “Moose” said before the Angels and Rockies played the third game of their series at Co...

The Los Gatos Anti-Racism Coalition is launching a rental assistance program to provide emergency support to neighbors across the Bay Area who are at risk of eviction.Coalition founder Jeff Suzuki said the housing crisis has made the area even less socioeconomically and racially diverse, and has made some residents more at risk for homelessness.“When we started this program, we asked the question: If we had $1 to spend right now, where would it be the most effective in preventing additional cases of homelessness?” Suzuki said. “These are people who are living check to check where an unexpected increase in their expenditures might actually put them out on the street. And that’s the reality of a lot of people who become homeless.”A study from University of California San Francisco that surveyed homeless people across the state found that 70% of those surveyed believed a monthly payment of $300-$500 would have prevented their homelessness.Taking that idea, the coalition aims to i...

ANÁLISIS | 36 horas extrañas y caóticas en Rusia parecen el principio del fin para Putin

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 06:43:14 GMT

With Russia revolt over, mercenaries' future and direction of Ukraine war remain uncertain

Russian government troops withdrew from the streets of Moscow on Sunday and the rebellious mercenary soldiers who had occupied other cities were gone, but the short-lived revolt has weakened President Vladimir Putin just as his forces are facing a fierce counteroffensive in Ukraine. The aborted march on the capital by Yevgeny Prigozhin and his Wagner troops, some of the most effective fighters in Ukraine, also left their fate uncertain.Under terms of the agreement that ended the crisis, Prigozhin will go into exile in Belarus but will not face prosecution. Neither Putin nor Prigozhin has been heard from since the deal, brokered by Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko, was announced Saturday night. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken described the weekend’s events as “extraordinary,” recalling that 16 months ago Putin appeared poised to seize the capital of Ukraine and now he has had to defend Moscow from forces led by his onetime protege.“I think we’ve seen more cracks emerg...

Greene says it's 'unfortunate' Boebert 'leaked' House floor spat to press

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Sunday accused Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) of leaking their tense argument in the House chamber to the press, calling it "unfortunate" that she did so. “I find it unfortunate that Lauren Boebert leaked that conversation that we had to the press. But once she leaked it out, I had to confirm that that's, in fact, what I said,” Greene said in an interview on Fox News’s “MediaBuzz” with Howard Kurtz. The Daily Beast first reported the argument between the two conservative lawmakers, citing two sources that saw the exchange and a third who was familiar with the matter. Greene confirmed the story later to reporters in which she called Boebert a “little bitch” after the Colorado lawmaker sought to force a vote on her impeachment resolution against President Biden. Since the sources in The Daily Beast story are unnamed, there is no evidence that Boebert "leaked" the story. When reached for comment by the publication, neither lawmaker de...
